Referring to my despatch Ne 162 of the 31st of March
last with which I forwarded a petition from certain Chinese
inhabitants I have the honour te enclose a copy of a lead-
ing article in the Hong Kong Daily Press of this day. The
Editer was the originater of the petition forwarded in 1901
⚫n Sanitary matters, the inaccuracies in which were 30
clearly demonstrated by Mr Chadwick in his repert. Of the
valde of the assertions made with such hardihood in the
enclosed article you have in the Colonial office the means
of judging. I forward the article however as an evidence
the correctness of the view expressed by me in paragraph
2 of the despatch referred te.
